AS temperatures soar in the UK, we make sure you look cool even when it is really hot.
Here, Siobhan O’Connor reveals hair and beauty tips for sweltering days.
From tomatoes to soothe sunburns and tea bags to calm any rash, we give you tips on how to look cool even on sweltering days[/caption]STRAIGHTEN HAIR WITH TISSUES
Use tissues to leave your hair sleek and smooth on a hot day[/caption]A BOX of tissues is not only a saviour for hay fever fits, but offers a heat-free way to straighten tresses.
The last thing we want to do on a hot, sticky morning is labour in front of the mirror with a pair of straighteners. A TikTok user ran a Kleenex tissue down her lengthy hair, which left it looking sleek and smooth.
STORE COSMETICS IN THE FRIDGE
Store nail polish and other beauty products in the fridge to make sure they stay smooth[/caption]WARM weather can make your favourite nail polish turn gloopy. Storing it in the fridge will keep it smooth and make it much easier to apply.
Adding a drop of nail polish remover helps, too. Store your suncream, aftersun, moisturiser and masks in the fridge as well – it makes their cooling properties even more effective.
TEA BAGS FOR BIKINI RASH
Keep your bikini line blemish-free and avoid razor rash by using chamomile tea bags to calm redness[/caption]RAZOR rash is the other uncomfortable burn we are more prone to during the summer. But despite regular shaves, you can keep your bikini line blemish-free with chamomile tea bags.
Let them cool down and place them on the rash to soothe. The teabags are packed with anti-inflammatory antioxidants which calm redness and spots.
APPLY PERFUME TO YOUR ELBOWS
Spray your favourite fragrance on your elbows to stay smelling fresher for longer[/caption]WANT to stay smelling fresher for longer? A scent expert at The Perfume Shop suggests spraying some of your favourite fragrance on your elbows, behind your knees and on your belly button as these areas radiate heat which enhances the scent.
Spritzing after you have moisturised ensures that the perfume sticks better, too.
DEODORANT ON THIGHS
Apply a layer of deodorant on your thighs to tackle chub rub[/caption]ALONG with freshening up your pits, roll a layer of deodorant on your thighs.
It’s the non-greasy solution to tackling the uncomfortable bugbear that is chub rub. Though it may need topping up, it will prevent friction for a good few hours.
TRANSLUCENT POWDER
IT’S not an ideal time to apply make-up, but by rejigging the order you can sweat-proof your base. Moisturise first before applying a thin veil of translucent powder with a brush and spritzing with setting spray.
Slotting it in before your primer and foundation will make it stay put for longer. (NYX Translucent finishing powder, £7.20, lookfantastic.com)
TOMATO JUICE FOR BLONDE
If your blond highlights are turning green, coat your hair in tomato juice[/caption]IF you are cooling down by taking a dip, be warned that chlorine can fade blonde highlights and leave hair with a green tinge.
You can tackle this by coating your hair in tomato juice for five to ten minutes before washing with shampoo and conditioner. Dye your hair dark? Dilute apple cider vinegar and spritz to prevent fading.
PLASTERS TO STOP SWEAT
Apply plasters to the sweatiest parts of your feet to avoid slippery shoes[/caption]SUN and sandals can result in slippery feet. Applying plasters to the warmest part of your foot – the arches of your soles – will absorb perspiration and stop your sandals sliding.
If you are wearing loafers or shoes, sprinkle baking powder in them when you get home to soak up any excess moisture.
USE GREEN CONCEALER
COVERING up sunburn is not easy, particularly when it leaves your nose and forehead red. You should, of course, always wear SPF 30+ to protect skin in the first place, but if you have fallen victim, opt for a colour-correcting concealer to disguise pink skin.
Green helps counteract redness, resulting in a neutral skin tone. (LA.Girl High Definition Concealer in Green Corrector, £4.95, beautybay.com)
TOMATO TO SOOTHE BURN
If you have a sunburn, apply slices of tomatoes on it as they are rich in powerful antioxidant lycopene[/caption]TOMATOES are rich in powerful antioxidant lycopene – a hero ingredient at alleviating sunburn redness.
It protects skin from UV damage when eaten and resting slices of tomato on burnt areas also cools the heat.
SMOOTH FRIZZ WITH T-SHIRT
Use an old cotton T-shirt to dry your hair to avoid static hair during the heatwave[/caption]PRONE to static hair when the temperatures soar? Dry yours with an old cotton T-shirt instead of a towel – they create less friction and thus less frizz.
If static starts to make a mess of your hair during the day, use a tumble dryer sheet to tame it.
SPRAY NECK TO DRY HAIR
Spray the back of your neck with anti-perspirant if you use a hairdryer on hot days[/caption]USING the hairdryer in scorching heat is no fun. If your hair takes a long time to dry you – and your hair – can soon get frazzled.
A great way to stop getting too hot and bothered is to spray the back of your neck with anti-perspirant.
